Jalaluddin Rumi's name is already familiar to lovers of Sufism literature. His works are not only admired by the Muslim community, but also Western society. He has the full name Jalaluddin Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Balkhi al-Qunuwi. He was born on 6 Rabiul Awwal 604 H, or coincided with September 30, 1207 AD, in the Balkh area, including the kingdom of Khawarizm, northern Persia (Now Afghanistan). If he saw his lineage, Rumi came from a descendant of a respectable family. From the father's side, the Rumi genealogy met Abu Bakr as-Shiddiq. While the mother's bloodline came to Ali ibn Abi Talib.
Since childhood, Rumi used to live moving from one place to another following his parents. He and his family were recorded to have lived in several places, ranging from Nisabur (northeastern Iran), Baghdad, Makkah, Malatya (Turkey), Laranda (southeastern Iran), to Konya. Rumi himself then spent most of his life in Konya, an area formerly known as Rum (Rome).
Rumi is known for his broad intellectual insights and his ability to pour feelings into beautiful poetry and has a deep mystical nuance. Many poetry lyrics contain feelings of true love for the Creator. His poetry works also contain philosophies and images of Sufism that he adheres to.
