This is where HAMKA learns religion and Arabic after stopping at a second grade elementary school. He obtained a Professor degree from Jakarta Mustopo University, while he received the title Doctor of Honoris Causa from two major universities, namely Al-Azhar University Cairo and Nationality University Malaysia. While the name Buya is attached to its name, it is a call of honor for the Minangkabau people.

During his life, Buya HAMKA spent his time as a journalist, writer and teacher. He was also involved in politics through the Islamic-based Masyumi party before the party was finally dissolved.
