Aphorisms Islam Hasan al-Bashri – The name Hasan al-Bashri is no stranger to Muslims. He is one of the scholars from the tabi'in circles who are known for his oral wisdom. Her mother's words can always touch the hearts of Muslims. His full name is Abu Sa'id ibn Abil-Hasan Yasar al-Bashri, born in Medina in 642 AD, nine years after the death of the Prophet Muhammad. Hasan al-Bashri's father and mother were both former slaves before being released. Although born of parents with such social status, since Hasan al-Bashri's childhood lived in the midst of the affection of the family of the Companions of the Prophet. Even his mother was one of the Prophet's wives, Umm Salamah.
From a young age, Hasan al-Bashri had studied in the homes of the wives of the Prophet. He also diligently gained knowledge from studies conducted by the Companions of the Prophet in the Prophet's Mosque. Mingling with friends makes him grow into a godly person. At the age of 14, he decided to move to the city of Bashrah, Iraq, and settled there. From here the name al-Bashri is pinned by his name, referring to the city of Basrah where he lives.
Moving to Basrah did not make Hasan al-Bashri stop learning. There he later studied with one of the Prophet's companions, Abdullah bin Abbas. From Ibn Abbas, he studied various sciences such as interpretation, hadith, and qiraah. While in the case of literature, he learned a lot from the fourth caliph, Ali ibn Abi Talib. All learning experiences that shape it become faqih in matters of religion. He was also asked several times as an advisor to Amir al-mu'minin.

Barangsiapa yang berusaha menyaingi agamamu, maka berkompetisilah dan kalahkan dia. Dan barangsiapa yang berusaha menyaingi duniamu, maka biarkanlah dia dengan dunia. – Hasan Al-Bashri
It was said to al-Hasan: Shouldn’t one of us feel too shy to ask his Lord to forgive his sin, then do it again, then ask for forgiveness, then do it again? He said: The Shaytaan wishes that you would have this attitude, so do not tire of asking for forgiveness. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Seorang laki-laki bertanya pada Hasan al-Bashri, “Tidakkah salah seorang di antara kita merasa malu terhadap Tuhannya? dia berbuat dosa lalu dia mohon ampun, lalu dia berbuat dosa lagi kemudian dia mohon ampun lagi, dan begitu seterusnya?”. Al-Hasan berkata kepada lelaki itu, “Setan ingin agar seorang di antara kalian berbuat seperti itu. Karena itu, jangan pernah meninggalkan istighfar untuk selama-lamanya.” – Hasan Al-Bashri
Do not detest the misfortunes that befalls you for what you detest may be the cause of your solution and what you like may be the cause of your ruin. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Jangan membenci musibah yang menimpamu. Karena apa yang kamu benci bisa jadi menjadi penyebab solusi bagimu dan apa yang kamu sukai bisa jadi menjadi penyebab kehancuranmu. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Of the signs that Allah has turned away from a person is that he becomes occupied with that which does not concern him. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Di antara tanda-tanda Allah berpaling daripada seseorang ialah Allah menjadikan kesibukannya pada perkara-perkara yang tidak bermanfaat bagi dirinya. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Oh Son of Adam! You are nothing but a number of days, whenever each day passes then a part of you has gone. – Hasan Al-Bashri
He who has no manners has no knowledge. He who has no patience has no deen. And he who has no taqwa has no closeness to Allah. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Whoever seeks to compete with you in Deen, compete with him. Whoever seeks to compete with you in this Dunya, let him have it. – Hasan Al-Bashri

A person who acts without knowledge is like someone who travels without a guide, and it is known that a person like this will more likely be destroyed than saved. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Orang yang beramal tanpa ilmu seperti orang yang berjalan tanpa panduan. Orang yang beramal tanpa ilmu hanya akan membuat banyak kerusakan dibanding mendatangkan kebaikan. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Sell this life for the next and you win both of them. Sell the next life for this and you loose both of them. – Hasan Al-Bashri
juallah duniamu untuk akhiratmu, niscaya kamu beruntung di keduanya. Dan janganlah kamu jual akhiratmu untuk duniamu, karena kamu akan merugi di keduanya. – Hasan Al-Bashri
The world is 3 days: 1) As for yesterday, it has vanished along with all that was in it. 2) As for tomorrow, you may never see it. 3) As for today, it is yours, so work on it. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Dunia itu hanya tiga hari saja: 1) hari kemarin, sudah pergi dengan segala isinya (tanpa bisa diulang kembali). 2) hari esok, yang mungkin saja engkau tidak bisa menjumpainya (lantaran ajal menjemputmu). 3) hari ini, itulah yang menjadi milikmu, maka isilah dengan amalan. – Hasan Al-Bashri
What is this world but a dream that a sleeper sees, he delights in it for a few moments, and then wakes up to face reality. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Tidaklah gambaran kehidupan dunia seluruhnya dari awal sampai akhirnya kecuali seperti seorang yang tidur, dia melihat dalam tidurnya apa yang dia senangi kemudian dia tersadar bangun. – Hasan Al-Bashri
The best attribute a believer can have is forgiveness. – Hasan Al-Bashri

It has reached me that when Allah blesses a people and gives them some good, he asks them to be grateful. If they are grateful, He is all-able to give them more. But if they are ungrateful, He is all-able to turn His blessings into a punishment. – Hasan Al-Bashri
Telah sampai kepadaku bahwa ketika Allah memberi nikmat kepada seseorang dan memberi mereka sesuatu yang baik, Dia meminta mereka untuk bersyukur. Indeed, a person falls into sin, so he cannot forget, even grieve for it, until he finally enters heaven. - Hasan Al-Bashri

Enjoying housekeeping will be felt in 3 ways; 1) Uphold the worship of God, 2) Qana'ah with what is owned, and 3) Give thanks for the life partner God gave him. - Hasan Al-Bashri

Tadabbur alquran is nothing but training. - Hasan Al-Bashri

If you see someone who leads you in world affairs, then excel in the afterlife. Indeed, their world will be lost and the hereafter will be eternal. - Hasan Al-Bashri

O young man! looking for the afterlife, because often we see people who pursue the afterlife also get the world. But we never see people who pursue the world will get the afterlife together with the world. - Hasan Al-Bashri
If you consider your prayer affairs trivial, what do you consider important? - Hasan Al-Bashri

Believers do obedience but he is worried. As for the fajir people who do immorality and he feels safe. - Hasan Al-Bashri

Anyone who denounces himself in front of many people, in fact he has praised himself. And that is one sign of Riya '. - Hasan Al-Bashri

Fix what is left for you, then God will forgive what has passed. - Hasan Al-Bashri

Arrogant people like people on the mountain. He saw other people small, so did others see him small. - Hasan Al-Bashri

If it were not for the ulama, then humans would live like animals. - Hasan Al-Bashri

I read there are 90 verses in the Qur'an that teach that God determines sustenance, and He who bears the sustenance of all His creation. While I read one verse that said, "Satan promises you poverty." But why do we still doubt the true word of God in 90 verses, and we justify the words of Satan the liar who is only in one verse? - Hasan Al-Bashri

Stay away from you "later". Because you are today, not tomorrow. If tomorrow doesn't come near, you won't regret it. And if you are still ahead, you are better able to do like today. - Hasan Al-Bashri

Keep doing good to people who do bad things to you. If you can't, then don't let you do bad things to the people you are doing well. - Hasan Al-Bashri

O people, actually I advise you, and that does not mean that I am the best of you, not the most right of you. Suppose a Muslim does not give advice to his brother unless he is perfect, there will be no counselor. - Hasan Al-Bashri

I know that my food will not be taken by others, so my heart is calm. - Hasan Al-Bashri

What is valuable for your religion if your prayer is not valuable to you? while the first question that will be asked of you on Judgment Day is about prayer. - Hasan Al-Bashri
